Keynote Overviews: The State of Media Bias Research
Short overview talks introducing perspectives from computer science, journalism, political science, AI governance, and industry.
Working Group Formation
Participants introduce their expertise and jointly establish interdisciplinary working groups that will continue throughout the seminar.
Taxonomy Kickoff
Presentation of the initial Media Bias Group ontology followed by an open discussion on conceptual scope, terminology, and priorities.
Guided Breakout Sessions
Small-group discussions exploring conceptual, infrastructural, and computational dimensions of media bias and their relationship to different levels of analysis. Also exchange and feedback between groups, to compare perspectives, identify overlaps, and refine discussion topics before the afternoon sessions.
Report-Back & Open Discussion
Working groups present interim findings, identify open questions, and discuss emerging themes.

Presentation of interim results, including the emerging taxonomy, areas of agreement, and unresolved conceptual questions. Feedback collection through the BARI platform.
Taxonomy Discussion
Joint refinement of the proposed taxonomy and identification of remaining gaps and disagreements.

Infrastructure, Governance & Policy Perspectives
Plenary discussion of how platforms, ranking systems, governance structures, access restrictions, institutional power, and regulatory perspectives shape media bias and information visibility.
Annotation, Datasets & Benchmarks
Discussion of annotation practices, available datasets, benchmark design, shared resources, and the methodological implications of current technical developments.
Computational Approaches & Stakeholder Use Cases
Collaborative sessions on computational approaches to detecting, contextualizing, and mitigating media bias, together with concrete needs from research, journalism, industry, and AI policy.
Benchmarking Priorities & Seminar Report
Consolidation of benchmarking priorities, stakeholder requirements, and the initial structure of the seminar report.
Report-Back & Open Discussion
Brief presentations of the day’s results, followed by discussion of unresolved issues and connections between technical, infrastructural, and policy perspectives.
Open Questions & Intended Users
